Works during September 2017

During September, the site has completed the concrete to the basement slab and the basement’s columns. The ground floor slab construction has continued to enclose the basement areas. Drainage and the foundations for the new school have been completed, with the first area of the school’s ground floor slab concrete poured.

The tower’s lift core construction continues and is currently at level three. The formwork has been erected for the tower’s first floor, in advance of the steel reinforcement being laid down.

Community Engagement

On Tuesday 19 September a careers fair was held at the Nightingale Estate Community Centre. Representatives from McLaren along with Wates, Kier and Hackney Works offered advice on how to get into the construction industry and the different career pathways and opportunities available.

The Blue Hut refurbishment was completed in time for the charity to open for the new school year. Penny Munday, Quality Assurance Manager from SkyWay, the organisation that runs the charity said she was delighted with the refurbishment and how much she, the staff and the children appreciated our support. This means that they can now use the funds that were going towards the redecoration to supporting children’s projects in the future.

Working with Inspire, a local charity that facilitates work experience placements, we will be hosting our first work experience placement from City and Islington College in October.

We support Hackney Council in hiring local labour and we are currently recruiting. If you live in or have been educated in Hackney and are looking for a job or an apprenticeship, contact hackneyworks[at]hackney.gov.uk. Hackney Works is a free recruitment service run by the Council. Whether you’re just starting out, haven’t worked for years or you want to change careers, they can advise you.

Planned works for October 2017

During October, the project will continue with the tower core construction with the tower slabs being constructed closely behind. The school’s ground floor slab will be poured with columns constructed. The Nile Street block’s 1st floor slab will be constructed, followed by columns and its two lift cores.

We will endeavour to use the best practicable measures to minimise disruption and inconvenience during the course of our works.  However, should you have any queries about the project, please do not hesitate to contact us on NewRegentsCollege[at]mclarengroup.com
