Works during August 2017

During August, construction of the basement slab has continued. The concrete for the first section of the tower’s lift and stair core was poured up to first floor, with this section concreted it enabled us to bring to site and to start assembly of the self-climbing jump form system that is used to form the tower concrete core to the top. A self-climbing jump form does not require a crane as it climbs on rails up the building by means of hydraulic jacks.

The first area of the new school’s basement slab was also constructed, allowing preparation for construction of the lift core to commence.

Since the last update Tower Crane 2 was erected on 29th July. We were able to complete this operation on the Saturday and therefore did not need to open on Sunday 30th.

Community Engagement

Looking for a new career or just curious about what construction can offer?

Then come along to the Hackney Jobs Fair on Tuesday, 19 September from 3-7 pm to the Nightingale Estate Community Centre, 20 Olympus Square, Nightingale Estate, London E5 8PL. Representatives from McLaren along with Wates, Kier, Ixion and Ways into Work will be offering advice on how to get into the construction industry and the different career pathways and opportunities available.

As part of our community engagement programme we have undertaken the refurbishment of the Blue Hut, with a family-run painting and decorating company based in Hackney. The Blue Hut is a community youth centre adjacent to our site that offers services to young people aged 8 – 25 years old. These services include health and wellbeing, youth services including: alternative education, creative activities, enterprise and employment and life skills.

We support Hackney Council in hiring local labour and we are currently recruiting. Whether you’re just starting out, haven’t worked for years or you want to change careers, they can advise you.
